Steven K. Vogel
Steven K. Vogel is Director of the Political Economy Program, the Il Han New Professor of Asian Studies, and Professor of Political Science and Political Economy at the University of California, Berkeley. A leading scholar of comparative political economy, his research focuses on markets, institutions, industrial policy, and the political economy of advanced industrialized countries, especially Japan. He is the author of Marketcraft: How Governments Make Markets Work, which argues that markets are actively shaped by governments, firms, and other institutions rather than emerging spontaneously.
