Kellee S. Tsai
Kellee S. Tsai is Dean of the College of Social Sciences a nd Humanities a nd Distinguished Professo r of Political Science at No rtheastern University. She previously served as Dean of Humanities a nd Social Science a nd Chair Professo r of Social Science at Hong Kong University of Science a nd Technology (HKUST); a nd Vice Dean of Humanities a nd Social Science at Johns Hopkins University). Specializing in China’s political economy, info rmal institutions, a nd autho ritarian capitalism, her books include Back-Alley Banking: Private Entrepreneurs in China (Co rnell 2002); Capitalism without Democracy: The Private Secto r in Contempo rary China (Co rnell 2007); State Capitalism, Institutional Adaptation, a nd the Chinese Miracle (co-edited with Barry Naughton, Cambridge 2015); Evolutionary Governance under Autho ritarianism: State-Society Relations in China (co-edited with Hsu Szu-chien a nd Chun-chih Chang, Harvard 2021); a nd The State a nd Capitalism in China (with Margaret Pearson a nd Meg Rithmire, Cambridge 2023). Her articles have been published in China Journal, China Quarterly, Comparative Political Studies, Fo reign Affairs, International Security, Journal of Asian Studies, Journal of Development Studies, Perspectives on Politics, Politics & Society, Studies in Comparative a nd International Development, Wo rld Development, a nd Wo rld Politics.
